Text editors are becoming more professional and complete and come packed with tools and features, but if you're looking for the opposite and what you want is something as simple as possible, then TextRoom is right for you.

TextRoom is a minimalist text editor that simply displays a blank page on a black background. Each one of the few options that it brings is accessible via keyboard shortcuts (or press F1). You can configure it to work full screen and specify certain properties, such as font, size, colour, size of folio or incorporate, by default, the date on the document.

Although the funny thing is that while you're writing in TextRoom, it emits a rattling sound like an old typewriter.
